Where We’ve Been in 2021

Kids at water station - Oct 2021

When we started on this path last year, one of our major goals was to provide the children of Maria Orphanage with a secular education that would help them seek meaningful employment when they leave the orphanage. It became quite apparent that some of the basic necessities needed to be addressed first. It is amazing how far our money can go to support the children at Maria Orphanage.

If you have been following us on Facebook, or, checking in on our website this past year, you will see some great strides forward. Here is a brief summary, in no particular order:

  • Installation of 2 water pump stations. Everyone in the village will benefit, as the water pumps are located close to the village and the fields - improving access for all.

  • Desks and benches built by a local carpenter make studying and attending class much more comfortable for the children.

  • Local labourers added security grills to the doors and windows; and, replaced the washroom roof.

  • A computer with a large monitor and speakers, plus an internet connection, will bring loads of educational opportunities to the children.

  • Children received letters and stickers from Comox, British Columbia - great excitement!

  • The dull gray and faded white buildings were spruced up by local painters - exterior colour of choice: Robin’s Egg Blue! An inside wall has been left until the children have a chance to add their creativity to it.

  • Sports equipment and blue jeans - super popular with the children!
